Children need to maintain well mental health status if they want to live a life with full positive experiences, potential and willingness to do what they want. It is important to recognize and treat the mental illness in its early stage. Once it develops in your child, it can become a part of your child’s unnatural behavior and may become difficult to treat. It is not easy to find whether your child has a serious problem of mental health or not. Stress can also bring some changes in your child’s odd behavior. So, there is need to find the signs which indicate that your child has mental illness. These factors include change in appetite or sleep, returning to the behaviors more common in young children such as bedwetting, signs of being upset, depression, sadness and repeated thoughts of death or suicide.signs of being upset in children
There are number of things that can impact a child’s mental health both positively and negatively. Providing a good environment that shows love, trust, compassion and understanding to each other will greatly impact a child’s mental health in a positive way. Some children have to deal with childhood that is full of hatred, angst, distrust and constant negativity. These children may get mental disorder after some time. Some children may have mental health disorders since birth. Parents play a vital role in the development of their child’s self-confidence, emotional strength and balance. Children and teens may experience mental disorder in the form of depression, anxiety and stress which may difficult for parents to understand. The pressure of growing up for some children can be very hard. So, it is important for the parents to understand that their child problems may seem unimportant for them but it could be a serious problem for the child.
Mental illness can be of various types such as depression, anxiety disorder, self-harm and eating disorders. Today, depression and stress affecting more children and young people than in the last few decades but still it is more common in adults. Teenagers are more prone to the risk of getting depression problem than young children. Self-harm is common in young children. Some children find it better to harm themselves such as burning and cutting to manage their emotional pain. They may not wish to live anymore. Eating disorders generally start in teenagers and more common in girls than boys. Yet the numbers of children have affected with eating disorder are less in quantity. Children having eating disorders may start eating less food to become slim or starts excess consumption of foods and have no control on their eating habits. physical activity in children There are some lifestyle changes that can help your child to stay mentally fit which include being physically active, eating healthy diet, getting regular exercise, having time to play outdoor & indoor games, being a part of family, going to school daily and taking part in social activities.
Some children like changes in their life while some not. For some children changes may act as trigger such as for some children going to schools may be excited, making new friends and for some children it may be anxious entering in new environment. In some children growing up can also lead to mental illness because an important part of growing up is working out and accepting who you are. To overcome this circumstance, some teenagers start consumption of alcohol, drugs and other substances that can affect mental health. Most children grow up with a good mental health but today’s scenario children and teenagers have more problems with their mental health than 30 years ago. This is probably because of the changes in the way we live and due to the negative experience.
